Seager hits solo HR in 8th, Mariners rally past Rangers 4-3

13 Mai 2017

Kyle Seager has been driving the ball to all parts of Safeco Field lately - just not out of it like he's been used to. He didn't hit his first one in 2017 until April 29.

Seattle Mariners starting pitcher Dillon Overton throw against the Texas Rangers in the second inning of a baseball game, Sunday, May 7, 2017, in Seattle.

"I've hit some here before so I kind of remember it a little bit", Seager said. Bergman allowed a run and struck out two over 3 2/3 innings.

"It goes that way sometimes, just didn't catch a break offensively", Mariners manager Scott Servais said.

"For him to step up in that situation poised, and we've seen him do it before, and put a great swing on a pitch he was able to get out of the ballpark. After the shaky first 10-12 games we played, we are starting to get some momentum going". "And that's what it takes".

SHORT HOPS: The Mariners are 0-3 in extra innings...catcher Tuffy Gosewisch made his Mariners debut after being recalled earlier Friday from Triple-A Tacoma...opponents are a combined 0-for-27 this year against Darvish with runners in scoring position.

After jumping out to an early lead, it was another struggle for the Texas bullpen.

The Seattle Mariners open up a weekend series with the Texas Rangers tonight.

Rougned Odor crushed a two-run homer in the 13th inning against rookie reliever Emilio Pagan that broke a 1-1 tie and, shortly thereafter, a miserable day ended in miserable fashion with a loss over 5 hours and 2 minutes.

But then control became a problem. Other than that, four hits and no walk with three strikeouts. Sam Dyson was the choice for the eighth, and he allowed a one-out solo homer to Kyle Seager that completed the Mariners' comeback. Seager hit his home run one inning later and watched as the ball carried toward right field. He walked three and fanned eight batters. Reliever Jose Leclerc got two outs but issued three walks, including a bases-loaded pass to Jean Segura. But he told Servais he could pinch hit if needed. "Then we brought in Marshall, and he pulled his hamstring pretty good". The Rangers had some good fortune on that second-inning run, as the inning started with Mike Napoli reaching on a passed ball after striking out.

The Seattle Mariners sent 11 batters to the plate in a seven-run seventh inning to beat the Texas Rangers on Saturday night. The Mariners just took two out of three from the Los Angeles Angels. We can look at us 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. What Perez did much better was eliminate walks.

The Rangers will be in San Diego for a four-game series with the Padres beginning Monday. He handed a 1-1 game to James Pazos to start the seventh.

And the Seattle hitters were doing next to nothing against Texas right-hander Andrew Cashner, who controlled things by utilizing his fastball in all quadrants of the strike zone. In came In came Pagan, who struck out Gallo and worked a one-two-three 12th inning. Pete Kozma started in place of Gallo.

They were down to Dillon Overton, their seventh starting pitcher, who did not make it out of the fourth inning.

QUOTABLE: Gallardo pitched at least six innings and gave up one run for the second time in six starts.
