I don't question Sanders' right to fight for the things he believes in.
OMAHA, Nebraska (AP) Bernie Sanders, who attracted millions of college-aged and young adults to his presidential campaign past year, is following through on a promise he made when he left the race: to promote younger leaders for the Democratic Party.
Democrats, recently licked and all out of sorts at both a national and local level, would do well to explore why a 75-year-old senator from Vermont has caught on with so many young voters.
Sanders and Perez's next stops include events in Texas, Utah and Nevada. Democrats hailed Thompson's unexpectedly strong performance but party strategists came under fire for not investing more in Thompson's campaign.
The senator who ran unsuccessfully in last year's Democratic presidential primary brought up the United States military's ongoing presence in Afghanistan and Iraq, saying the U.S. could be "dragged into another war" to the detriment of domestic priorities.
"Our job is to radically transform the Democratic Party", said Sanders to the very loud and enthusiastic crowd. We're investing in races like the Omaha mayor's race. Sanders called on the crowd to help him in "rebuilding the Democratic Party, making it a grassroots party - a party from the bottom on up!" Most are in their 30s or 40s.
Some of the candidates Sanders has endorsed are direct products of the his campaign, such as Khalid Kamau, who was elected to the South Fulton, Georgia, City Council on Tuesday. I guess, you know, there was an election in a red state just last week.
Others, such as Tom Pierrello of Virginia, reflect Sanders' challenge to the party establishment.
ASSE : le match en retard contre Monaco tient sa date
En définitive, l'AS Saint-Étienne recevra le Paris SG à cette date, avant son déplacement à Monaco. La 37e journée, initialement prévue pour le 13, se retrouve décalée au 14.
Over the last few days, Sanders's has at times offered some odd comments for a guy pushing for Democratic unity.
Though Sanders sought the Democratic presidential nomination, and he is often aligned with Democrats in the Senate, he's actually an independent senator from Vermont.
"So many of our people are giving up on the political process", he continued.
The Democratic National Committee has all but disappeared since its recent elections - except when they're asking for money. He replaced Allison Tant, who didn't run for re-election after four years as party chairwoman.
Perez criticized President Trump's stated desires to repeal and replace Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act, which he said, "has been a lifesaver, not a job killer".
Q. Is Sanders the best spokesman for that outreach to red states?
"Just seeing him inspires people", said Shannon Jackson, executive director of Sanders' PAC.
Sander's appearance comes as Democratic parties nationwide are trying to appeal to the working class in states including ME, where a resurgent Republican Party in the last decade has gained ground in rural communities roiled by the closing of paper mills and sluggish economic growth.
"It's a handsome community which is under threat of incredible gentrification", Sanders said. Working-class Democrats voted for Trump previous year in all the places Clinton needed them to vote for her. Sanders' concern about his party's alienation of these voters is justified.
"What we do need is to take a hard look at the airlines in this country and make them much more responsive to the consumers than they now are". Donald Trump did not win the election - the Democrats lost the election!
