Former Patriots Football Star Aaron Hernandez Found Hanged in Jail Cell

Hernandez, who was acquitted last Friday in a separate murder trial, had appealed the Lloyd murder conviction. Lloyd had been dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee. Before that visit quarterback Tom Brady said he would not attend, writing in a statement that "in light of some recent developments" he was unable to attend due to "some personal family matters". A date for a hearing had not been set.

He was a productive tight end for the Patriots for three seasons, catching 79 passes for 910 yards and seven touchdowns in his second year to help the team reach the Super Bowl.

"For us to hear the news this morning that he committed suicide, took his life, it's shocking", Garcia said. FILE - In this Sunday Jan. 1, 2012, file photo, New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez (81) tries to break free of Buffalo Bills linebacker Chris Kelsay (90) during the fourth quarter of an NFL football game in.

He was found guilty in April 2015 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Fox 25 says there was blood on the cell wall.

"I've always known Aaron Hernandez as someone who was in complete control", Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson said.

However Hernandez died, one thing that appears clear is that his conviction will be overturned now that he's dead.

There is also speculation that Hernandez may have been high before killing himself.

When officials at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in MA responded to Aaron's cell Wednesday morning, the verse John 3:16 was scribbled above his eyes, this according to WBZ Boston.

"Absolutely no chance he took his own life", Murphy said. However, the department said the investigation is ongoing. He also tried blocking his door from the inside with various items, officials said.

Aaron Hernandez's lawyer says he intends to conduct his own investigation into the National Football League star's hanging death.

"I wasn't surprised, but I was relieved", said his attorney, Jose Baez, to People. "Aaron was looking forward to an opportunity for a second chance to prove his innocence".

The circumstances surrounding Hernandez's death are suspicious.

Funeral for officer killed in London terror attack
Full service funerals are held when a police officer or member of staff dies while carrying out their duty, Scotland Yard said. PC Palmer, 48, was killed on March 22 by a 52-year-old convert to Islam, Khalid Masood , as he stood guard outside parliament.

Additional reporting claimed Aaron took his life by hanging himself.

When it opened in 1998, the prison was seen as one of the most technically advanced in the nation, housing over 1,000 inmates with 366 cameras rolling 24/7.

It is named for two former prisons workers killed in 1972 during an aborted escape attempt.

Hernandez's college teammate, Tim Tebow, famously began writing "John 3:16" into his eye black in college - a tradition he carried into his pro career. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In death, Aaron Hernandez may not be a guilty man in the eyes of the law.

Authorities say Hernandez was found hanging in his MA prison cell early Wednesday and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The Massachusetts State Police are investigating his death.

"You have a lack of educational programs, vocational programs, limited access to mental healthcare, and a real sense that the culture within our prisons is not conducive as to whether the prisoners or the corrections officers". An autopsy will be performed by the medical examiner's office in Boston to determine his cause and manner of death, according to the Worcester district attorney's office.

Investigators suggested Hernandez shot Lloyd to keep him quiet about the two earlier killings.

While that won't change Hernandez's reputation, it could have a dramatic impact on the lives of the family members he left behind.

Hernandez's death came just days after he was acquitted in a double murder case.
